You can also "Use Device Controls", which will move the volume sliders that you see in Windows. If you enable "DSP Volume" for your audio device, Roon will apply volume control internally without influencing the Windows volume. It's possible to configure it either way. Also double clicking on an Album doesn't show tracks. I start with a completely new library, import my whole library or just a couple of tracks and I do get to see the Album artworks but unable to switch to Tracks view.

Second- when using Roon to control Tidal will the volume slider in Roon control all the pc sounds or just the music? I seem to be unable to get Audirvana 3.1.7 or 3.1.6 under macOS High Sierra (10.13.1). The rabbit hole is deep on that kind of stuff, but there's definitely enough there to have some fun fooling around with it, and compared to Roon, the TIDAL app does very little in this area. Roon could probably replace everything that the miniDSP is doing as well, and run that DSP at higher sampling rates / quality levels, with some effort.

Roon has a large set of DSP functionality if you prefer to use EQ, upsampling, or make adjustments for your headphones, speakers, or listening environment. It supports MQA decoding (or not, if that's what you prefer). You can use WASAPI drivers, ASIO drivers, exclusive mode. Roon provides just about every tool you could conceivably use to do that. In case it helps this is the basic setup: pc to MiniDSP via usb to amplifier to speakers and sub.ĭoes Roon improve the sound quality from Tidal? this is confusing enough without having to write it down. I hope I explained the situation clearly enough. So 2 key questions here- first, does Roon improve the sound quality from Tidal? Second- when using Roon to control Tidal will the volume slider in Roon control all the pc sounds or just the music?

I'm led to believe this is because AS uses the WASAPI driver, if driver is the right term- I don't know much about it other than the sound quality improved. The V Link indicates J River hi res streaming is delivering 192kHz.but Tidal Master MQA only 48 kHz.

When I just listen to music (with all pc sounds silent) the music sound quality is excellent- better than thru the native Tidal app. I stream from desktop into VLink USB/SPDIF converter (DAC does not have) to DAC to headphone amp. I listen to music when I work and play games on the pc so it's necessary to hear both at reasonable levels. It's not possible to equalize the volume balance between the 2. New to Roon and Audirvana Studio but AS is a non-starter because the app volume slider controls all pc sounds and the AS volume is 47 million times louder than pc sounds.
